Girl Scouts Ice Cream Outing

Since kindergarten, Kiera has been in Girl Scouts, and I have been the co-leader. We started strong with 14 girls and now in fifth grade are down to seven. We've had a blast over the years, but as the girls get older, they have other activities and commitments. Here are two recent events...ice cream social at Malley's and a tour of Marco's Pizza. At the tour, each girl got to make their own pizza. Yum!

Ice Cream Celebration

We had our last Girl Scout Meeting this week. We always try to think of something fun to do to finish the year. Last year it was a pool party and this year, it was a trip to Malley's for ice cream after school. To make it even more special, our name was on the marquee! And to make things even more hectic for us, Kiera and her friend, J had dance pictures at the same time as our ice cream party...they missed the group pic, but we managed to snap a few pics of them in their costumes with the sign. This is our fourth year of Girl Scouts. This year the girls bridge from Brownies to Juniors! We had a small bridging ceremony on the playground after our sweet treat. Also, to sweeten our day, we invited the other third grade troop to join us for ice cream!

Life Lately

Snow much fun!

Girl Scout World Friendship Day 2017
Anna, Kiera, Jess and Mena representing Japan...
love the chop sticks in their hair!

Though it's February, the Christmas Cactus is still in bloom!
Warming our "paws" by the vent! This is one of Brooke's fave
spots to lay.
Horseback riding with the Girl Scouts
Found this gem of a wreath at the thrift store and knew it would
look great in Kiera's room...I didn't know it would also look so cute
framing her face. She's such a goofball!

50's Father Daughter Dance

Kiera and Dave attended their second Father Daughter Dance of the year! The first one was for St. Raphael School and this time around it was for Girl Scouts. This one was a 50's theme. We ordered a poodle skirt from Amazon and borrowed a leather jacket from a friend for Dave. It'd say they look the part! Kiera's highlight of the evening was when the fathers and daughters made a line/pathway and couples took turns dancing through the walkway...They did the "death drop" (one of Dave's famous moves from his disco days) and everyone oohed and ahhed!

Girl Scout Bridging Ceremony

They started out as a group of eight Kindergarten girls in Daisies and are now a group of 13 second grade Brownies. To mark their change in rank, we had a Girl Scout Bridging Ceremony "bridging" the girls from Daisies to Brownies. They ceremony took place on a bride in Clague Park. It was symbolic, simple and sweet. I read an interactive story about a ungrateful little girl that changed into a kind, helpful and responsible girl after looking in the pond for a reflection of someone who could make a difference...that person is ME! Then the girls walked across the bridge one by one and received their new Brownie vest from Miss Lia. We ended the ceremony with a picnic at the park.

Waiting for their turn to "bridge"

Reciting the Girl Promise
"On my honor I will try: To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times and to live by the Girl Scout Law."
We ended with the Friendship Circle
Then the girls decided to put all of their hands in and cheer "Brownies!"
