Teacher Meet and Greet - Third Grade

It's back to school time again! Our girl is a THIRD
GRADER. Her teacher is Mrs. Barrett. Kiera says
she is very nice and she never raises her voice (though
it's only been two days of school!). The theme for
St. Raphael this year is J.O.Y. which stands for Jesus,
Others, Yourself. In other exciting news...I am the
room mom for Room 3!

This picture may look like Kiera is "too cool for school,"
while in fact, she loves school!

Meet the Teacher

The day before school starts (8/19/15) St. Raphael's has a "Meet the Teacher" afternoon. Since I was already back to work, Kiera went to work with Dave in the morning, and I used a 1/2 sick day to take Kiera to the Meet and Greet. Kiera is in Room Two this year. She got the teacher that she wanted, Mrs. Palcko. Kiera had her in kindergarten as her gym teacher (though then, she wasn't married and her name was Miss Turek). Mrs. Palcko is young, fun and "the nicest teacher ever!"

At her new desk
We took a sneak peak at the new church
On our way out the door, we ran into three good friends...
J, M, Kiera and M
It was a beautiful day, so Kiera and I biked to the pool and she got
her special treat, Dippin' Dots! She's been waiting all summer for them!

Jesus Day

The first grader's at St. Raphael's always put on a performance called "Jesus Day" which is a day of songs and praise, a homily by Father Tim, readings and lunch with parents. Before the big day, we put sponge rollers in Kiera's hair. Two curls were still wet in the morning, so Kiera's personal hairstylist (aka Dave!) dried the hair in the wet rollers. She looked so cute and curly! Because the performance was in the middle of the day, only I could make it. Kiera's part was a speaking part. She introduced Jesus Day. Here are her lines..."We have learned so much about Jesus this year. He loved and cared for everyone. He didn't care if you were rich or poor, young or old, he cared for everyone. He wants us all to follow him."

Nice Christmas jammies in May!

The procession into the church...she spotted me!
Each class makes a banner in first grade that follows them

Mrs. Brennan is retiring this year. Kiera filled out a memory
page for a scrapbook and when asked what she would miss
most about Mrs. Brennan, Kiera wrote "her."
