Potato Harvest

We tried growing potatoes for the first time this year. We planted them in grow bags and they sat on our driveway. We planted two bags, one white potatoes and one with red. Each bag started with three  organic tubers (shriveled up potato starts with eyes on them). We harvested them this weekend
and we can't wait to eat them!

Our bounty!

June This and That

We're not even halfway through the month of June, but we've already had a lot of good times!

Kiera and some classmates are playing softball on the Westlake
Rec league. Here's Kiera (catcher) and Dave (helper coach)
Ty & Val came to cheer Kiera on at her softball game...
...grandpa too!

For Mother's Day, Kiera bought me a bunch of mini succulents
which I transplanted into our favorite tea tins to make a rainbow planter!
For the record, our two fave teas are the orange tin (Hot Cinnamon Sunset)
and the yellow tin (Yellow & Blue) which is a chamomile and lavender blend.
Got to spend the day with Leo and Lenny...
Here's Leo soaking up the sunshine!
They are cute (and lazy!) coworkers

Kiera tried CYO Track for the first time this year,
competing in the 400m, 200m, and discuss. Here are the members
of the 7th grade track team at the track banquet.

Another trip to the Lake, with G this time, but it was too choppy to go in

Fairy Garden + Succulents = Adorable

Dave was working at a customer's house and he commented on her succulents and how Kiera and I liked them too...and she shared some of hers with us! I let Kiera have them and she added them to her fairy garden.

We watched through the front window throughout the day as the tree came down.

Farewell Big Tree

We had to bid our lovely, old oak tree adieu this summer. We loved her shade, privacy and little face; we didn't, however, love the fact that she was an accident waiting to happen...a cracking, 3-way split trunk. We grabbed the camera and snapped a few last photos of our fam and the tree.

Pumpkin

Earlier this summer, we went to the Bay Village Community Garden's"Garden Party." They had a kid's craft table and Kiera spent most of her time there. One of the crafts was to decorate a seedling container (recycled paper towel roll) and pick a seed. Kiera picked a pumpkin seed. All on her own, she planted the lone pumpkin seed in our backyard. We did not tend to the seed because we didn't know she did it. So imagine our surprise when we noticed a large leaf pop up! We asked Kiera about it and that's when she told us she planted the seed. As you can see, it's taken over our tiny backyard! We have enjoyed watching the pumpkins grow (they grow so quickly!) and we will enjoy them even more on
Halloween night!

Bay Village Garden Party

The city's Green Team hosted a garden party two weekends ago. We spent two hours walking around from table to table. Kiera's favorite tables were the Nature Center and the craft table. Dave went too and enjoyed talking to various green businesses about his odorless and dustless air filtration device he uses when painting. We also got to catch up with our friend Warren.

(or so it appears in this photo!)
At the craft table, she made a bubble wand, a windsock, a birdfeeder and planted seeds. Aunt Kate helped run the crafts and Kiera was one of their best customers!
